judging by reading through various threads ive come to the conclusion there is a fair few bookworms out there in metal land. So how about it?, discuss what your reading, and give your verdict, give some reccomendations and whatnot??

Just started the Redemption of Althalus by david eddings, so ill give my verdict whn im done. anyone else??

Not a bad book, but a bit predictable, like much of Eddings' work.

I'm currently reading "Assassin's quest", the last part of Robin Hobbs' "Farseer triliogy". So far, it's OK, but not quite as good as the first two. I'll wait and see how it ends, though.

I wish I had the concentration, motivation and indeed the inclination to read books.....don't think I've actually read one since I left school.

It's been a while since I read any fantasy stuff. I'm presuming you've read all the Feist books .... Magician et al lub? I like them best of any I've read tbh. Rather partial to Tad Willaims too. Ive read most of the Eddings ones but I agree with Tet they are a mite predictable. Have a pile of stuff to read at the mo but it's more girlie stuff so I doubt would be of much interest to people here.

Finished yesterday: David Eddings - The Diamond Throne (Entertaining, but he does tend to write to a formula. He also like a big cast, many of whom are interchangeable from series to series)

Also, last night : David Fiddimore - Tuesday's War (Lancaster crew "adopt" a female ATA pilot.) This one came as a bit of a surprise. Lots of eccentric characters (A psychotic Pole, a bomb-aimer who's way too fond of his bombs, a Lanc pilot who flies it like a Spitfire) and equal parts amusing and grim. Catch22 would be the closest parallel I can think of.

I read a lot. I tend to have two books on the go at a time. Mostly fantasy. From where I'm sitting I can see a shelf full of the usual suspects - Feist, Gemmell, Pratchett. Also Tad Williams, Terry Goodkind and Simon Green.

currently trying to get through 'The Algebriast' by iain m banks.

finding it a bit slow however his stuff can be a difficult to start off but is usually worth the wait.

the only exception being song of stone which was awfull

Pratchett to me will never grow old. However the manic chortling to myself is often a side effect of his books...

R Feist is a great writer, however I'd only read 2 of his books. King of Foxes and Talon Of The Silver Hawk.

Another couple more in the fantasy writers would be Gemmell, David Farland and Ian Irvine.

Although I've become more inclined to read horror/thriller/drama books lately. Ian Rankin is one of my favorite authors in those there parts!
Plus P.J Tracy and PD James.

Terry Pratchett indeed is the mutt's nuts, although I prefer his earlier work as some of the more recent ones haven't been as funny IMHO.

Tolkien is a must, of course. Terry Brooks is brilliant as well.

And Stephen King's 'Dark Tower' series. Just read them.

I'm trying to trawl through Down Under by Bill Bryson at the mo but it's slow progress! I really need to be in the mood for reading and with work n all i feel like i din't have enough time. I'll get through it one day though!

On the way to Wacken I re-read Adrian Mole and the Weapons of Mass Destruction based in 2002-4, I've read all of the series I think, and it's a really good look on a time I can actually remember

Am I the only person here who doesn't like fantasy novels?

I'm not ^ not really.. I prefer more factual stuff and autobiographies.

I just finished a Black Sabbath book written by 2 of their old road crew. Not bad.

and I read some of the book of revelations last night, like you do, the bible rocks

Im not too keen on fanatsy novels. I prefer non-ficition works about ancient civilisations and the spiritual world.

I'm currently reading Stephen King's Dark Tower series. Gotta go out and get the 5th one.

I well reccomend these books.
