And no, definitely not any romance nonsense, 'tis good solid fantasy all the way.
Literally, the first time I read them I got through the Farseer trilogy in about 3 days... and that was around school! I just couldn't put them down.

There's romance involved glancingly like in a lot of fantasy, but its a side element to the main story which is about as solid a fantasy yarn as you can get . Well and truly recommended

And as for Mr Pratchett -

I've just started Stephen King's latest. I can't help but think of similarities to the plot of the Simpsons movie. How unfortunate.

right its official, i have bought Robin Hobbs stuff today!

I've had a desire to re-read LoTR again, unfortunately the books live with my parents.

Now finished off 2001: A Space Odyssey. Good book, and not all about HAL as it turns out.

I read Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell recently and have basically been unable to bring myself to read another book out of fear that nothing will ever match it.

I remember people mentioning this book, so here's a tidbit of info:

"US broadcaster HBO is to begin filming its epic fantasy adventure series Game of Thrones in Belfast in June.

The series pilot was filmed at locations around the city.

Nine more programmes based on the first book of George R.R. Martin's multi-volume A Song of Fire and Ice series have now been commissioned."

They're definitely making it! Awesome!

I knew they'd made the pilot, but didn't know they'd commisioned it. As far as I know the BBC has some sort of rights to it, so it may not take it forever to show on TV over here
