Yeah, it's just a shame it's bugged to hell. The developers kept on releasing patches after Troika closed and worked for FREE. They're up to the unofficial 4.4 patch now...

I need more memory. I got the updater to switch it to 1440x900 which actually runs better than 800x600 for some daft reason, but 512Mb RAM seems to be slightly too little.

Fifteen quid should solve that easily right? :). You can check your memory usage on the task manager to see if memory is the problem.

It frequently tells me that I'm out of virtual memory...

Thing is, my motherboard is 4 years old now, and as such, takes an older 184pin 333Mhz DDR RAM or whatever it is. I can get it for 15 quid in the UK, but they won't post overseas and the cheapest I can get it here is 40 bloody pounds!

You can probably buy a really cheap base unit and download the expensive part (operating system). Not unusual to get a fairly powerful PC bare for 200 quid I think, there is a guy on ebay.uk but you're in Australia aren't you?. Depends if money's a big issue at the moment, are you still a student?

I'm more broke now than before when I *was * a student! I had the loan to play with.

To be fair, it's really only games since the end of last year it won't run. So, Oblivion onwards really...it will work, but it'll crash after Patrick Stewart dies.

AMD 2400+

AMD XP 1700+, 1466MHz
512MB RAM
32MB RADEON 7000
115GB and 185GB HDD

Needless to say I'm considering a rebuild, this PC is now six years old.

Hehe. Yeah, me too. I did put in the graphics card a year or so back now though.

Thing is with graphics cards is you may as well just get a bare unit PC for the cost :S I've upgraded a graphics card once before, but with this machine I'd probably only ever upgrade the RAM. If I needed to upgrade processing/Gpu I would sell this and buy a new pc then install all the Operating system software myself. Would only cost a little more than a graphics card probably.

And at Twaddle. 500mb more RAM will do you for games such as Oblivion, Medieval Total War: II for sure because thats more or less my PC spec and they run fine, those games are all I need :)

Btw has anybody ran bioshock on relatively low specs?

I've just found out there's another Dawn of War expansion coming out next year called Soul Storm, with the Dark Eldar and Sisters of Battle as the 2 new races

Aye, I know. Looks awesome.

Do many other people play the Total War games?

I should be getting Kingdoms this christmas, but I'm dreading next year. Empire is gonna be so epic, but completely out of my poor computers league.

Medieval Total War: II is quite simply the most flawless game I have ever played :) perfect.

Empire uses the same battle engine as MTW afaik, it should work? Not sure about the naval battles though, the upgrade from Rome to MII should probably work as a measure out of interest, but its more a gameplay than graphics game.
