i always wonder why people settle for old games on a pc rather than paying for a console and renting new games for a fiver a week surely thats better than not being able to play new games or spending a ridiculous amount of money on a really good pc

imo, most of the time people aren't settling for the old games, they're just generally better.

well yeah, old games are excellent, but some new games are too. i suppose the problem with consoles is they make it hard to keep playing older games, like some of the best xbox games dont work on 360

Very true. Their backward compatability policy was really wierd. I'd rather it be like the Wii where you can play all previous gen games on it.

Slimline PS3 fails completely at backwards compatibility. It saddens me considering I can't find my PS2.

Never played any FF games, but I'm sorta-kinda considering getting the new one for the sake of it. What should I expect? Typical JRPG stuff I suppose...?

Go with Final Fantasy X, for the PS2. That is a very good game, and when I first played it I wasn't into the series at all, but I really enjoyed it even though I'm not a fan of turn based combat.

I second this. X is my favourite 3D FF, closely followed by IX. If you have a PS2, then either of these games are a good springboard into the series. If you're gonna go with one you can play on a DS, I recommend VI or Dawn of Souls (which is I and II), of course this is assuming you have a DS with a GBA slot.

I'm nearing the end of VI at the moment. Just training up some of my weaker characters and trying to collect a few more celestriads from the Veldt forest. I've already completed all the main side quests, so my party has everyone (minus Shadow, oops.), and both my magic arsenal and armour stockpile are formidable.

X-2 was more fun to play, had more side quests, went back to the ATB battle system and didnt have tidus in it. The only thing X has that i would have liked in X-2 is blitzball

I've been playing VII and VIII again recently on my psp. Both classics.
