Upgrade eh? How much will that cost?
I might need to upgrade my Xbox soon... Oh wait.
Enjoy the inferior graphics.

Have a PS3.
Getting a new PC as soon as I can too, hopefully I can afford before Skyrim.
Best of both worlds.

Re: Computer Games Thread
I have a PS3 and a 360 and I am going to sort a gaming PC for skyrim, bf3 and every other motherfucking game because consoles simply can't compete anymore. I do enjoy games for their gameplay but I want it to look as nice as it possibly can whilst I am playing it.
Folks, I do have a question though, will 2 580GTX cards be pointless at the moment? Research is giving me mixed opinions on the matter, some reckoning it is pointless for todays games, others reckoning it is what you will need to enjoy BF3 in ultra settings.

Truthfully if you an afford them (£350-£400 per card at retail prices?), then sure. It depends on how often you are likely to play games that really require full settings, as things are not actually progressing as quickly as you would believe.
With the right set up, for under £1000 total, you could have a PC that would play everything on full for the next 4-5 years if not longer. Yes, there is always the temptation to spend a fortune & if you use it a lot then why the hell not. But weigh up the options, as it's surprising how much an overlooked cheaper upgrade can increase performance.

Goddamit Mike! See what you've started.

Re: Computer Games Thread
Got to do it
About the same is the answer.
Over 5 years, no upgrades to either other than accesories/software.
Console
XBOX or PS3 - £250
Subscriptions & points/dlc - £200(subs, £0 on PS3) hate to think what most spend on points, so lets say £300 (usually more).
Games - (example) - 10 new games a year, available on all formats. 50 x £40, £2000.
Controllers, batteries or chargers & other accesories etc - £250.
Total £3000 (£2800 for PS3 with free subs)
PC
£1000 (set-up) never spent any more than this and upgrade around every 5 years & see no need to change habits in todays market to be able to play everything I want on full.
Points and/or DLC £300 (same costs as consoles)
New games available on all formats, 50 X £30 £1500.
Accesories £250 (just to balance with console costs, most probably don't spend anywhere near this or it's included in initial set-up cost).
Total £3050
Can't include monitor this days as I use TV for both computer and freeview/TV. No difference in costs for that now.
I think in general I have spent less on my PC, in the last 5 years than the average console gamer who comes into the shop. Yes you can say you can trade in console games or buy pre-owned, but most PC gamers buy when cheap or in deals of Steam these days & console gamers in general buy more games, so yet again it rebalances itself.

It's going to be interesting to see the amount of trade in's between this and MW3. COD will sell more, but I think we might be swamped with trade in as people switch back to Battlefield as it just looks far better.

Re: Computer Games Thread
two things on the graphics there, i've seen them running the PC version alongside the PS3 version, the difference it there, and its better on the pc, but its really not a difference that is at all relevant. aside from the absolute fact that good graphics mean nothing, people playing on a console arent gonna spend the entire time wishing the graphics were better, and if you really care about the small difference thats pretty sad.
as for MW3 vs BF3, both will be shit anyway, lets be honest. battlefield can fuck right off after bad company 1 and 2, i dont care how different they say it is. and MW3 will be the same as MW2, short story thats not very good with online thats only good when you get a full team of friends and even then only for about a week then it'll get boring.

I really don't understand how anyone can still get excited about a basis FPS.

Re: Computer Games Thread
Not surprisingly that is the general attitude of most. Single player campaigns way to short and online gets boring after either friends start disappearing or certain people find the spots to camp in.
It takes something special in most modern shooters to make me even bother with them.
But I disagree about graphics. In the right games & scenario they can add a lot to the gameplay & overall oxperience. Generally in shooters, your too busy to really notice, but in some games it helps a lot & is more noticeable.
