Thanks for the replies, I feared it wouldn`t be easy :D

Are all the PS3 exclusives cack?? MGS4, Resistance 2, Little Big Planet, Uncharted and the forthcoming Killzone 2 and Ridge Racer 7 all look fantastic from the trailers. But then, Gears of War 2, Left4Dead, Halo 3...it`s tough! A big lottery win would sort it all out I guess!

I have a Wii at the moment, bought it for the Mario games which I`ve always loved...but beyond that, Resi Evil 4 and Metroid Prime 3 I`ve really struggled to find much of interest on it. So it`ll be traded in for one or the other in the next month or so...

if you just want a console for games them the 360 wins every time and it is a lot cheaper, but if you want a blue ray player aswell get a ps3. I own and enjoy both but i would never recomened a ps3 over a 360 as their isnt as many good exclusives and more and more games have compulsary installs, you do get free online play with the ps3 but it is only £35 a year for the 360 which has better online games and better games to download The only problem with the 360 is the red ring of death problem but if you get one there isnt a lot you can do about it

as for the graphics the ps3 is a more powerful machine and thus is capable a better graphics but i havent seen a ps3 game that looks better than gears of war 2 (appart from valkyria chronicals but that is a different graphical style) and if square enix say they can port final fantasy 13 for the 360 without toneing down the graphics then i doubt you will see a noticalbe difference between 360 games and ps3 games for a few years

as for wii games i would recomend you get no more heroes and fire emblem before you trade it in as they are two of the best games out for it, and download sin and punishment, gunstar heroes and alien soilder from the virtual console aswell

Without trying to start an argument...would people recomment a 360 or a PS3? I`ll be buying one or the other over the next 4-6 weeks.

Neither as they both a waste of money. Both over hyped junk boxes, only made to produce cash and rip off the gamer.

Or a less cynical view ..... the PS3 has little or no great games which to make folk buy it, MGS4 being the only one and its over hyped too. Blue-Ray is a joke and the creators and sellers know it. Its not the next platform as another and better type of information storage device has been made.

The old models of the 360 have huge hardware problems, the new versions aren't much better but the fabled Red Ring Of Death is less likely. The games aren't much better than the other consoles but thanks the stupid graphics most people use the 360 instead of their pcs.

I am sicking to the humble pc from my games now.

@ NightEyes: It's not Blue Ray, it's BluRay; aside from that, I agree completely. I'm highly prejudiced against the Xbox though, so I can't really comment on that fairly. The PS3 however.. well, I was practically a Sony fanboy up until this generation. I just feel that they've fucked up big time, trying to make a juggernaut when there was never any need for one; they've made a machine which is undoubtedly the most powerful console of this generation, but has such a huge price tag on it that not everyone can afford it. Also, they've tried to force this new storage medium onto developers and consumers alike, and most people don't see the need for it. Removing backwards compatibility was a really bad decision too.

I've abandoned Sony now and more or less become a PC gamer, better graphics, upgradable hardware, admittedly more expensive in the long run, but you're getting much more than a device to play games on. Anyway, most games play better with a keyboard and mouse.

I like how the the PS3 is so powerful that scientists are using them as cheap alternatives to supercomputers xD

BluRay is far from a joke. It holds about 14x more information than a dual layer DVD, they've phased out HD DVD in a year of being released and even Microsoft are admitting that they're going to have to start using it.

The downsides to BluRay are the discs are expensive to make and consequently to buy, and one surface scratch can ruin a disc, so be careful when handling them/buying second hand games/movies.

The old models of the 360 have huge hardware problems, the new versions aren't much better but the fabled Red Ring Of Death is less likely. The games aren't much better than the other consoles but thanks the stupid graphics most people use the 360 instead of their pcs.

That's irrelevant because if your 360 does get the 3 red lights Microsoft will repair it for free and give you a 3 year warranty on your machine.

To be fair if you ring up Microsoft to complain about most faults they'll be happy to repair it and sometimes give you a courtesy gift as an apology just to avoid loosing a customer.

Another thing about 360 vs PS3 is the price difference as mentioned, the 360 keeps dropping in price while the PS3 has remainded around the £300+ price mark as Sony are unwilling to drop the prices in this country as they have in America and Japan.

PS3 is meant to be dropping in price around march apparently. If you care about upcoming stuff then get a ps3, from the looks of the 360's lineup its not got much decent exclusives coming up.

In the end you know what kind of games you like most. I'd say 360 is best for playing multiplayer (but pc wins) but ps3 has better single player type games (again pc wins). So you probably know what you want to get...

All my own opinion, if you disagree then don't flame me :dibbley:

As a gamer & comp user I prefer PC over any of the consoles, purely because the technology is always so far ahead. My PC is 3 years old & still has a better spec than any console.

As an employee of Game, I have to agree that the XBOX is the better games machine but the PS3 is the better all rounder. When they drop the price of the PS3 & you can finally get hold of the 160gb ones they will become the better console (until the new XBOX comes out of course).

The thing is though Sony can't really drop it that much as it costs them alot to make the machine, you aren't just getting a games machine, a half decent Blu Ray player is £300, and the PS3 is apparently better quality than that according to the dvd magazines, if you just want a games machine go for the Xbox, although , games like Uncharted and MGS are brilliant and all the games I have are top notch too, really playable, the PS3 is an entertainment centre, and I personally use it more for the Blu Ray player and dvd player upscaler, yes £300 is expensive, but it's not just a games console unlike the Xbox, it's much more and if you read all the magazines the companies have announced alot more for the PS3 in 09 and the downloads centre too, which I personally don't use

Thanks for the responses, I`m still on the fence haha. It must be said I could do with a new computer as well...but I do like to wallow on a big fat sofa in front of a huge TV playing games rather than hunch over my computer screen...and I do tend to sit in front of this thing too often anyway!

I`ve always been really impressed with blu-ray when I`ve seen it, is the general consensus that it isn`t all that? :? I must admit it was this that was swaying me towards a PS3. It has to be said the 360 is more within my price range though...

i would urge you to get a xbox 360 as it has better games. If blue ray is that imporant you can just ue the money you havwe save by getting a 36 instead and get a blue ray drive for your pc

you should use the download service as calling all cars, everyday shooter, mega man 9 and Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix are some of the best games out for the ps3
