Yea, I've since found out from The Devil Wants Her Swagger Back who posted a status finally. A real shame as Na Cruithne sound brilliant and would bring some folk to the mix. Zhora don't do it for me.

Fuck just checked out Na Cruithne. Really wish they had won

Same, massive shame they lost. Folk bands at Bloodstock are becoming a rare sight these days :(

Haldamir319 wrote:It looks like death metal band Infected Dead won the mammoth 10-band final in Kent.

I was hoping for Alastria who are a great power metal act.

So far, there's been 1 symphonic (Aonia), 1 folk (Na Cruithne) and 1 power metal act (Alastria) who have been in the finals. None of them got through. They all lost to stoner/sludge or death metal bands...

One thing I would like to say on Aonia. I really like them, and enjoyed all their sets in the Sheffield tournament, but they weren't really in consideration for top 2. For me at least, it was a straight shoot out between Ba'al and Archelon.

Semi Final 1 in Manchester was last night with Voodoo Blood getting through in 1st and Skeletal Damage in 2nd (which makes this the 3rd time they've got to a final in 3 different regions). I pegged Voodoo Blood as a certain finalist and possible winner as soon as they announced they were entering, and Skeletal Damage I've really enjoyed on all 3 occasions they've played, so I'm pretty happy with that as a result.

Saurr and Kringer and the Battle Kats were both very enjoyable again, nothing against them, but they were of noticeably lower standard when matched up against the other 2.

Just been reading up on some of the other tournaments. Cornwall/Devon are down to their semi-finals. Quite oddly - to me at least - they are giving bands just 15 minutes each in their semis! That seems quite short!

Newscastle's final is on 23rd June, the bands playing are:
Vigil (Groove/Djent Metal)
Decrepid Monolith (Black Metal)
I'll Play the Villain (Metalcore)
Trendkill (Thrash/Groove Metal)

and there's a playoff for the last slot on Wednesday featuring:
Blood Moon Bandits (Rock n Roll)
The Unholy Concoction (Booze Metal, whatever that is)
Erebor (Technical Death Metal)
Blackjack (Rock)

Yeah, that doesn't seem enough to give a good impression, particularly seeing as it usually takes a song or 2 to get the sound sorted just so. Are they packing a lot of bands in or something?

Nope. IIRC it's 5 bands for each semi-final. This after they had a first round consisting of heats with just 3 bands in.

Blood Moon Bandits won the last spot in the Newcastle final so the line-up is:

Vigil (Groove/Djent Metal)
Decrepid Monolith (Black Metal)
I'll Play the Villain (Metalcore)
Trendkill (Thrash/Groove Metal)
Blood Moon Bandits (Rock n Roll)

2nd Semi in Manchester tonight; Gorehead and Prognosis go through through to the finals. Pretty much as I expected, although I would have preferred 1968 to make it over Gorehead. Lester Verde I quite like, but honestly they were quite lucky to get this far, they were certainly the weakest act to get this far.

That gives us a final of :

Voodoo Blood
Skeletal Damage
Prognosis
Gorehead

Honestly, with a new judge coming in from BOA for the final, I have no idea which way it'll go. I'd put Prognosis as the best of the 4, Voodoo Blood are great and would be a fantastic addition as they're so different to the usual New Blood fare, and a win for Skeletal Damage would be well deserved. Gorehead, I just don't like very much, sorry.

This is quite frankly ridiculous. I live in Devon and I have just got a band started and plan to enter M2TM for 2018, but the style of music i have written means that all songs so far are between 8 and 10 minutes long. How are we supposed to fill 15 minutes when we will be over the time limit if we play 2 songs, or massively under if we play just 1? It narrows down the style of bands that can compete

15 minutes is a daft set length! I'm pretty sure the first time Aceldama did the (first generation) Metal 2 The Masses in Birmingham (at Scruffys) it was 20 minutes, and that felt too short. At the end of it all, the set at Bloodstock is 30 minutes, so the competition is the perfect platform for the bands to perfect that set! That should be the set length. With 15 minute changeover, and a 30 minute set it gives the judges a good insight into how professional the band are with set-up and time management, which is important for the big day!

Malum Sky won in Cardiff. Personally I thought it should have been Democratus, who just put on a better show, but they weren't too bad. Tesseract-style prog metal.
