Possible Improvements to the New Blood Stage

Postby Smerphy » Tue Aug 19, 2014 10:58 am

2 of the worst bands of the weekend for me were on the NB stage this year, and I only watched about 5 on that stage! I think there should be more restriction with who gets booked, especially when there's a grunge band on there (Grunge has been dead since the mid-90's, it's just a waste of a slot at this point), I saw a bit too much non-traditional metal in there, and barely anything that would pass as a legitimate metal subgenre (I saw a thrash band, I think). I definitely think the stage could use some work, and while I saw some very good bands on the stage (Canyon Observer and Byzanthian Neckbeard spring to mind), I would have been more inclined to go in there if it seemed that whoever selected them was more familiar with the local scenes across the UK, because the bands that got through from where I am are hardly local favourites around here.

I had a listen before the fest. Vaguely Proggy Deathcore, withonly a smidgeon of death and heaping piles of Core.

I only saw Goat Leaf there this year I think. They were fantastic though, great stoner rock with a good frontman and a really nice sound.

Bands like Goatleaf are decent, but in the large numbers they had this year, not really suitable for Bloodstock. I definitely agree that the lineup on that stage has been pretty poor these last two years, it was interesting reading the announcements for it and seeing how many different ways of avoiding saying that all the bands sound exactly the same they could cram in. To be honest though, it might just be the UK metal scene in general that needs rejuvinating , not Bloodstock itself, I can't think of any bands local that are particularly special or do anything new personally.
BANDS I LIKE FOR BLOODSTOCK!!!

I can tell you five completely different sounding bands up Glasgow-way who would totally fit BOA: Achren, Atragon, Firebrand Super Rock, Bonesaw, Farseer

Of those 5, one has played BOA. This year we had Dog Tired and Scordatura, hardly bands that people rave over up here.

.

Surely all of those are far too big to play the New Blood Stage?

Achren were Sophie stage on the Thursday night after winning the Metal To The Masses thing. The first time they played was on the New Blood.

To be honest I'd rather see more bands like Goat Leaf than 10 identical br00tal death metal bands every day.

Firebrand Super Rock and Achren have played

Then replace them with Maelstrom and Bachuss Baracus, there are so many bands up here who get no recognition it's insane!

The tile is misleading, it sounds like you want improvements to the sound system in the New Blood stage, or a new layout of the tent...when actually you just want them to stop booking crap bands.

Do agree though, the majority of the bands I saw in the New Blood were poo.
