put your money where your mouth is

Postby houston4044 » Tue Feb 03, 2015 7:35 pm

After reading the "sack vickey" comments after some of the announcements I thought it would be interesting to see if people could do better. It's simple, you need to book:

9 bands a day on the mainstages and 3 on the sophie stage BUT you have to have at least 3 download bands and 3 repeats (repeats counting as a band thats played BOA in the last 3 years).

You have a 150,000 budget and the cost per band goes on their last slot at either DL or BOA (if they have done a UK tour since their last festival appearance go by their last festival slot). Heres a run down of the costs (NOTE: if the band is a reunion/full album slot +2,500 and if its a repeat -2,500 to their cost).

DL MAINSTAGE:
SUB= 30,000
3RD= 25,000
4TH= 20,000
5TH AND BELOW= 15,000
DL 2nd stage
Headliner= 25,000
Sub= 20,000
3rd= 15,000
4th and below= 10,000
3rd stage
Headliner= 20,000
Sub= 15,000
3rd= 10,000
4th and below= 5,000

Bloodstock mainstage
Headliner= 20,000
Sub= 15,000
3RD= 12,500
45 min slot= 10,000
40 min slot= 5,000

If a band has not played either festival then go by the size of the venues they played on their most recent UK tour
5,000-10,000= 20,000
3,000-5,000= 15,000
2,000-3,000= 5,000
1,000-2,000= 2500
500-1,000= 1,500
500 and below= 1,000

Good luck!

Surely having 3 Download bands and Repeats defeats the object of the thread? Aren't we trying to prove we can actually do her job better than her?

Friday: Manowar
Saturday: Manowar
Sunday: Manowar

Opening bands each day: Holyhell and Rhapsody.

Doesn't need anything else and it'll sell by the bucketload to Germans. :D

This festival shouldn't have anything to do with Download and that's the problem here.

Death to Power Pop!! It should go down with the sinking ship that is Download festival.

I don't mind bands that fit the "Bloodstock criteria" that have also played Download. But Download bands are a no no for me.

I was aiming more at "we see what vicky's getting at but it can be done better".

I left it open to interpretation, if there are DL bnads who you think would fit them whack 'em on your list, i wanted it to be a challenge rather than just a rollout of all the bands you want at bloodstock.

Ah screw it, just applt DL values to the big european fests and BOA values to the smaller european ones.

Im starting to see that people just want to have a moan rather than actually try it for themselves :lol:

It's probably because you're comparing Bloodstock to Download when A. Bloodstock is only 15k capacity whereas Download or Wacken etc are 80K+ and B. Mainstream Rock and Metal are being catered for at much bigger festivals in the UK and we are talking about making Bloodstock stick to the Extreme side of Metal which isn't catered for at larger festivals.

This thread was a disaster from the onset as it was just a contradiction of itself and not making any point of what we've been arguing about.

Wacken is 75,000 so not far off. The fact Wacken has 6 stages makes it easier to cater for a wider range of styles too.

OK I'll humour you:

You've given a budget of £150K, to bring back the whole of last year's line-up for the mainstage alone costs £210K. Headliner £20K + Sub £15K + Third £12.5K + 3x(45min £10K) + 3x(40min £5K) = £92.5K

Times by 3 days = £277.5K

To be geneous I'll take of the £2.5K repeat fee for every band! 27 x £2.5K = £67.5K

Are we therefore charging Sophie headliners £20K each to play?

Pointless exercise :rolleyes:

Your not charging them based on their placement but on their size, for example:

Label played 4th at DL last year so would cost you 20,000 regardless of what slot you put them in.

I put the repeat clause in a way to show how hard it is to book the fest without at least some (the 3 repeat minimum is to show that some repeats would be welcome, you just have to think which ones).

I thought it would be a bit of fun but see its not gonna work :lol:

I would like to point out that some of the bands that played last year wouldn't get out of bed for £30,000. :lol:

Why do we have to prove that we could put on a better festival? We don't need experience booking festival to critiscize it, or compare it to other festivals. Just because they're trying their best doesn't mean we have to spend our money on it, nobody goes to festivals because the organisers tried really hard. :lol:

It's also the way people try to justify a band by saying they "work really hard". My postie works really hard, I wouldn't want to see him on stage even though he can hold a tune better than most singers. :lol:

Very much this. There is often a view expressed that the festival shouldn't be criticised unless we're prepared to do it better ourselves. Well frankly, fuck that.
