Well following that logic Slayer will have to be the Sunday headliner to follow Anthrax :D

Remember the Metal Hammer review for Avantasia at Bloodstock 2013? "This should have been Gojira's slot", guess Bloodstock took that to heart.

houston4044 wrote:(playing devil's advocate) you could say the same about Twisted Sister being headliner though, a band that was briefly big in the 80's that haven't had a massive resurgence over here, Anthrax were bigger in the 80's in the UK than TS were (from the info I can find, I'm sure Gandalf or someone who was around in the 80's will prove me wrong  ).

I'm 44, I remember it all too well! Twisted Sister were huge between 1982-1985, Anthrax were huge from 1987-1991.

Twisted Sister have sold millions of albums and have several well known rock anthems. This is also their last ever UK show. They are plenty big enough to headline.

bloodfiend wrote:Apparently their last album got to no.53 in the UK (and 34 in US), so they have got into the top 75. Venue wise they seem to play Koko/Islington Academy when they're headlining in London, which would put them in the same kind of league as Paradise Lost and Dragonforce in terms of this years line up. From 4th top in 2013 to 3rd top in 2016 would be easily justifiable, but yeah special guest seems very generous to them.

Ah, my mistake, think I forgot to flick from singles to albums on the chart history page. Still, 53 is no different to what Blind Guardian managed this year and no-one considers them as *that* big in the UK (although they sold out the Forum). Googling shows me that Gojira played the Underworld last time they were in London?

That's my guess as well. Now that is a repeat and a half if true.

As long as Devildrivel don't show up. :ugh:

Surely even Bloodstock can't just repeat the top two from 2013 though?

Not to forget that both bands are touring together this month.

Don't forget that post on FB/Twitter along the lines of "We've locked in the headliners and one of them is new to the festival". I can't be bothered looking for it. :P

Found it:
"Delighted we have confirmed one of our 2016 HEADLINERS today, to get you thinking, this band have NEVER played Bloodstock previously...............??"

That implied that the other two aren't new, and we've already got Mastodon....

Seen them three time and still can't stand them, so yes, yes you can go wrong.

Still hoping for Priest for final headliner, but I'll probably be disappointed.

Slayer have been my joint favourite band for 30 years. Some of the best gigs I've ever seen have been by them (granted, most of those a long time ago. Hammersmith Odeon 1987, Brixton Academy 1994 and Rock City 2000. Sublime. They haven't been quite the same for a while). I'd still rather get someone else though. Would be terribly disappointing to end on exactly the same 2 bands as closed the weekend just 3 years ago.

Satyricon, Anthrax and Judas Priest would be a blinding way to close out the festival.

We shall see.....
