Yes, Trivium, Lamb Of God, etc have played before, but they've been exceptions on the bill, there has never been a nu-metal band play BOA, the closest thing was Soulfly years ago.

Actually there have been a couple of nu metal bands playing before, its just most of them have been on the lower stages so noone has noticed. I remember Father playing in 2012 (I think), who opened up with a medley of nu metal covers. They were actually pretty decent.

As for the announcement, its yet another one that will definitely attract all the naysayers and those on the fence. They must have had real trouble attracting any big names this year, which is strange considering how many seem to be touring.

I haven't heart of the last like 7/8 announced bands.

Hopefully a listen session will make me more hyped for the Sophie stage than depressed.

very marginally better than the last announcement, but pretty much confirms that all the big slots are gone and the rest is just to fill up the line up.

Don't they usually hold back a few mid-day slots on main for a little longer? I hope we get a few decent bands between MA and Satyricon plus between RC and FF rather than a band before MA and RC.

Friday looks a bit off a write off though, 2 bands before Stuck Mojo

The top 4 bar on Sunday plus the Sophie headliners look stronger than usual but the rest (while I like the bands) does seem smaller than usual.

Anyone got a helpful list that can say when certain bands were announced in previous years?

At this stage, it's usually every 2-3 weeks on a Tuesday. They occasionally do the odd extra announcement once the M2M finals kick off too.

As an aside, based on the last few years we have the following slots left:
Thursday:
4 on the Sophie stage (with one likely to be Divine Chaos, going off info in the rumour thread)

Friday
2 on the RJD stage
6 or 7 on the Sophie stage (While Sat/Sun had 12 bands last year, the Fri has never yet had more than 11).
6 on the Jager stage
13 on the Hobgoblin stage

Saturday
2 on the RJD stage
7 on the Sophie stage
6 on the Jager stage
13 on the Hobgoblin stage

Sunday
1 on RJD
7 on Sophie
6 on Jager
13 on Hobgoblin

Why have Evil Scarecrow been bumped up by around 5 slots, there's no way BOA are telling me that they are a mid-card band similar in size to Satyricon.

Even going on things such as social media pages, Evil Scarecrow should be near the bottom of the lineup. Misery Loves Co. should be opening or playing in the SL tent.

So realistically we have 5 main stage slots left but none of them will be particularly high up.

Unless the booking team are holding back a couple of decent bands they have already booked (Coroner or Metal Church please) I don't think the remaining band announcements will be anything to get excited about.

Looks like a large part of 2016 will be about socialising for me.

Based on the number of people they drew last time, they should definitely be higher on the bill than they were originally listed. I think the two remaining bands for that day will likely be beneath ES, with at least one below Stuck Mojo.

Just looking back at those numbers again - it's a little crazy to think we still have around 80 bands left to come!

Thanks, but I was interested in what bands were announced at what times in previous years. I'm wondering if there's any hope for anything good still to come.

Evil Scarecrow may have had a massive crowd, but putting them too high would just be saying "we haven't got anything else to book". I think they work better as an early, warm up fun band than anything else.

I know normally the big hitters are usually announced the year before but it doesn't exactly fill me with excitement that we're likely to just get padding from here on out. Chances are I will like the odd band (and I'm not saying small bands are automatically inferior to big bands) but doesn't fill me with excitement when you look at other festivals around the time and see that we missed out on the likes of Sacred Reich or Metal Church for Cambion or Vallenfyre...

Well they haven't really followed up their previous performance in a way that would merit excitement. From everything I've heard their tours have been more or less the same in terms of attendance and they had a brief surge in media recognition but nothing that would kind of deserve such a jump up the bill. Kind of smacks of "hey you liked them last time, lets just shine a bigger spotlight on them and save the hassle of getting someone else"

Have they had more commercial success since last time they played? No
Have they played bigger venues, since last time they played? No
Have they sold out similar sized venues, since last time they played? No

They may have pulled a big crowd, but that doesn't mean a lot, people could have just been curious to see the novelty or there might not have been much else on at the time, that doesn't mean they should be bumped up 5 places on the lineup.

I completely agree, I was wondering the same thing, seems daft Evil Scarecrow a joke/ novelty band that I'd only heard of when they played in 2014, having the same position as a bordering on Legendary band of high pedigree and huge respect within the genre. They've been bumped up alot of places without to my knowledge even doing anything, I guess because they had a big crowd in 2014 the organisers have justified a reason to cut costs

One could argue that they are now is a slot much more appropriate of the crowd size they draw.

And yes, they haven't done much since last time... except release a new album (Galactic Hunt came out in October 2014, after their last Bloodstock appearance), still draw good crowds on tour and release three music videos (Crabulon, Space Dementia, End Level Boss).

They always increased their crowd size per each appearance at BOA too. 2011 was a good amount of people in the tent for 2nd band on on the 2nd stage. When they next played (in the middle of the day, same stage) in 2013 it was packed! We all know how many they got in 2014 too (approximately 3rd highest draw on the main stage, behind Emperor and Carcass - that's more than Children of Bodom and Lacuna Coil managed).

So, yeah, I think it's fine that BOA are looking at putting them nearer to the middle of the bill - they'll almost certainly draw better the other two bands playing that slot over the weekend.

At the same time though, did they really need to bump them up the bill that far?
Unless ES demanded to be that far up the bill BOA could of placed them lower if they had wanted (considering the lack of growth since last time I can't see that ES would charge that much more). It probably be better in terms of ticket sales to put a crowd puller like ES further down the line up (though still higher than last time) and put other bigger bands above them; that way you can have a run of bands who could pull large crowds.
