Past and Expected Win-You-Over Bands

Postby Green Man III » Wed Jan 06, 2016 12:48 am

I'll keep it simple for now. Off the top of you head, name the band that most won you over thinking back to previous Bloodstocks you been to. And then post the band from the list announced so far you think might win you over this year. Edit your post as more bands get announced.

2012: Machine Head (knew of them but man, they won me over at this Bloodstock seeing them live for the first time, went out and bought a bunch of their albums afterwards)

2014: Undersmile (From the meek and mild Jager stage, this is the band that stood out the most for me and I have bought all the albums I could get my hands on)

2016: So far most of these bands I'm already a big fan of. So if Acid Reign is the alternative for Mastodon on Sat night I expect one of them might get this slot.

After the festival, come back and let us know if your 2016 prediction was right or if not, which band was it.

2015 - Pig Iron: I really enjoyed them and they were damn fine to listen to as something a bit different.

2016 - Behemoth: I had never heard any of their stuff but having listened to The Satanist and Abyssus Abyssum Invocat I am really looking forward to seeing them.

2005 - Turisas
2006 - Evile
2010 - Amorphis
2011 - Coroner
2012 - Watain
2013 - Ex Deo
2014 - Avatar
2015 - Overkill

Most of these were bands I knew little of before each festival but came away thinking at least they were quite good live. From the bands announced so far this year I reckon it will be Acid Reign.

Apart from two bands on the last post that I saw back in the day, i.e. Coroner and Overkill.

WHAT A LOAD OF SHITE!

:lol:

If this is really a genuine thread rather than yet another "wishlist" then I'm really disappointed with the suggestions.

2008: Swallow the Sun
2009: Blind Guardian
2010: Devin Townsend
2011: Triptykon
2012: Nile
2013: The Prophecy
2014: The Canyon Observer
2015: Delain
2016: So far, to 'win me over' its probably Mastodon - simply because I am completely familiar with the material of all of the other bands that I want to see and have seen most of them live (bar Rotting Christ and Symphony X). I have yet to see Mastodon properly* and I have a feeling they are going to be a great live experience, even though Im not particularly a fan of their stuff

*technically I saw them support Metallica at Wembley but I didnt know them, didnt pay attention to them and I was sat so far back that they were like ants!

2014: The King Is Blind
Hadn't heard of them before and really got into them due to their set

2015: Ol Drake
Didn't realize he was doing a solo project until he got announced

2016: Symphony X
Hadn't listened to them before but really enjoying what I'm hearing and looking forward to them a lot now. That and they are so far the only band I hadn't listened to before they were announced :lol:

Yes, I agree. We watched him. I wouldn't go out of my way to watch that sort of guitar wankery stuff. But it was quite enjoyable for a while.

It's not a "wishlist". It's a reflection.

I see what you mean. But these threads always descend into "Oh I liked so and so back in 2012, can we have them back please". Not a criticism.

Personally I haven't really found any new bands at Bloodstock since the indoor days.

Really? I've found quite a few:

* Sinnergod
* Hellfighter
* Gonoreas
* Brezno
* Sanguine
* Metaprism
* The Mighty Wraith

And probably many others that I've forgotten.
