Re: Grand Magus UK & IRE Tour 2020
Definitely going but it seems really early to announce it now, why not schedule the shows for November like every other band?

I'm glad they're not announcing shows in November - as my November is already pretty busy so anything announced for it now is probably going to clash with something else or be a on a day I can't make for work reasons. I am hoping to get to the Bristol show of this tour

Nice, got very little on in March at the moment.

Cool that they're doing a headlining tour as this year so far it seems to be only festivals.
Anyone else think even their headlining sets are way too short though? Seems to be only 12-13 songs most of the time? I'll take quality over quantity but most of their songs are in the 3-5 minute range so that's nowhere near 90 minutes which for me is the absolute minimum for a headlining set. Not to mention with the number of albums they now have it doesn't leave much space for changing up the setlist, other than 3-4 songs off of the current album they always seem to be playing the same 2-3 songs from previous albums, which is a shame as this way there are a lot of cool songs that just never get played.
Not to mention their set being very predictable, you pretty much know exactly what you're going to get every time.

The only bands that consistently play an hour headline set are the super technical Prog bands, some bands like Dream Theater and Between the Buried and Me will happily play for 2 hours but typically most will play about 10 or 11 songs and call it a night. No idea why Grand Magus can't play at least 15 songs, it's all pretty standard metal songs.

And it's not like they're too old to do that - though look at Judas Priest, doing 19 songs on their current tour.
Or Iced Earth doing 16 songs including some 9-10 minute epics. Or Therion regularly playing 18-19 songs even though Christofer Johnsson has problems with his neck.
Unfortunately only 12-13 songs for me means it's just not worth forking out for a ticket.

I agree about their set lengths. I wouldn't travel that far to see them, but as they're playing in Bristol and the ticket was cheap I thought it was worth a little trip up there.
