Vienna metal meeting

Just booked to go to this... anyone been to the previous couple of years?
Literally flying in the same morning from London then home next day.

Unleashed just about my fave band of all time so with them, solstafir and necrophobic decided to go. Throw in opeth, rotting Christ, fleshcrawl and secrets of the moon and I’m happy. Plus somewhere new on the map, never been to Austria.

Not been to the gig.

But just be aware that Vienna is a very expensive place.

^Not really, it's standard Western Europe capital city prices - i.e. cheaper than Scandinavia and more expensive than east Europe. No different to London really.

Was only there for a day before a connecting coach to metaldays and I loved it.

Went two years ago, absolutely cracking venue. It's an old slaughterhouse that now serves as an arts centre/ live venue. They'll be using the outdoor stage this year in addition to the two indoor stages. Contrary to popular opinion Vienna is no that expensive. Beer is good and reasonably priced. Am thinking of going to this myself as the line up is pretty good this year. The Escape Metal Corner bar will probably have a pre festival party on the Friday too. Enjoy!

Cheers! Thanks for the info.

Saw they had an outdoor stage this year.... assume it’s attached to the venue somewhere. Guessing the main stage is still indoors though.
Literally only there for the Saturday then fly home Sunday so won’t need much money.

I've just been to Vienna
Looks like a big Metal scene , 4 metal bars/clubs
Battle Axe was a great bar

Very nice city

Not more expensive than other cities like it (Paris is about the most expensive)

p.s.
There's a Slayer Guitar on display in the HARD ROCK

Funny how to dispute my fact that Vienna is an expensive city that the examples used to dispel it are Scandinavia, London and Paris...

It's an expensive city. I should know as I've been there dozens of times as my ex was from there.

Well, if you're going to compare it to Liverpool, then yes, it's expensive ;-)

Just back home from this, tired and still slightly hungover.

Had a great time. Well organised event and really good festival grounds. Small but easy to move around and really easy to get to from Vienna airport. Would recommend for future years if the line up is to peoples taste.

Only downside was the absolute downpour later on in the evening which put a dampner on the opeth crowd but necrophobic played on the indoor stage at the end of the night so didn’t hurt me too much.

Unleashed and Rotting Christ were superb and enjoyed sets by Fleshcrawl, Enclave, Solstafir, Necrophobic, Chris Holmes, chapel of disease and finally got to see Ellende who seem to never play outside of Austria and Germany.

Sounds like a good festival, how was the language barrier?

No probs at all as everyone seemed to speak English.
I guess with Vienna being the capital city everyone has good grasp of English anyway whereas more rural Austria may not.

The only festival in Germany that I’ve been too that seemed a bit more of a struggle with the language was Summer Breeze as it is out in the sticks a bit, bit that was only with hotel staff and taxi drivers and not inside the actual festival.
