Does Wacken ever have bad line-ups?

It appears that all the speculation about Blind Guardian with a full orchestra was a load of rubbish then! It was based on Hansi saying "see you next year" at the end of the Demons & Wizards set. The lesson from this is never read to much into what bands say.

I’ve been to wacken 3 times and vowed never to go back after 2008. It just got too big and too crowded. But dam the line up is good for me his time round.
Might have to rethink but can’t see an easy way of getting tickets

I go every year. Despite it being a huge festival, it doesn't feel like one. The atmosphere is totally different to, say, Download.

2009 was my last year.

Didn't bother with 2010 as I didn't want to stoke Iron Maiden's egos and it was starting to go too much into mainstream territory with bands like Motley Crue. One of the reason we started going in the first place was Dynamo was going too mainstream and booking Nu Metal bands.

Had a good run I suppose and saw it grow from a few thousand people where you used to buy your tickets in the Spar for the equivalent of about a tenner to being far too big.

If you're going enjoy yourself, but it's not what it was originally all about IMO.

I'm sure Maiden were gutted you weren't there.

I've always fancied going but am never organised enough to get round to it, I always like the diversity of the line up it generally has.

Yes, but me not giving money to Iron Maiden Holdings is a small victory.

Trying to turn it into Iron Maiden Fest by playing two out of three years is a bit off. It was also the fact they wanted all their mates and children's bands playing as well and not having other bands on one of the mainstages the day they played. Meaning we got fewer bands than normal.

Headlining twice in three years is a bit too much to be fair. I'm glad Bloodstock would never book the same headliner twice in three years.

Every European metal festival has a very different atmosphere to a much more mainstream festival like Download.

I've been to Wacken 3 times, and it's the worst European festival I've been to, Brutal Assault, Metal Days and Hellfest are all massively better.

I know, mental isn't it? Not to mention booking bands that treat themselves like a company - I mean that would just be crazy (
