Download Festival 2020

Postby Black Wizard » Sun Sep 22, 2019 2:39 pm

First announcement at 2pm tomorrow.

Resurrection Festival is also announcing tomorrow. They already have System of a Down confirmed, so I reckon Download will announce System of a Down tomorrow and both festivals will announce Kiss or Metallica.

I'm almost always wrong about this sort of thing though.

I just hope the bands I would rather play Bloodstock such as Devin Townsend, Mercyful Fate, Judas Priest aren't announced.

Black Veil Brides accidentally leaked the announcement about an hour early -

Headliners - Kiss, Maiden and System

Also playing - Deftones, Korn, Offspring, Disturbed, Black Veil Brides, Gojira

For me, that's the strongest set of headlines Download has had.

Also playing are Alestorm, Daughtry and Of Mice & Men

Hopefully Kiss & Maiden play Rock Fest Barcelona and I won't have to go to Download at all

I am very, very disappointed that Iron Maiden are back. It also looks like it will be a third leg of Legacy of the Beast which is total overkill and they have even recorded a new album.

Once again Download go for the tried and tested. It was time to promote Alter Bridge in my opinion, but Mr Copping has other ideas.

It's a business. Maiden, Kiss and SOAD are far more likely to help you shift 90k+ tickets than Alter Bridge are.

Yeah, as much as I love Alter Bridge, they aren't enough of a draw to headline Download - and that's the problem really. There's only a small pool of bands who are, so they tend to come round quite often.
Happy with this personally, always up for seeing Maiden and have always wanted to see SOAD.

Download will eventually need to let other bands headline. Kiss are supposed to be calling it a day and Iron Maiden aren't getting any younger. Everyone else can't just be on the undercard forever.

They should bump a band up, just one, every couple of years. It will be a slow build and a little risky. It's either that, or move the fest away from the hard rock/metal sphere, which is risky in it's self; and of course, not to my taste. Ergo, I prefer the former option.

About as unispiring as it gets for me. I can't see me going to Download in 2020.

I'll never go to Download, but if Maiden are doing summer fests in 2020, hopefully that means they might do Hellfest (although they played in 2018, so maybe a bit too soon for them to return).

At this point Maiden don't really need anything to justify or act as a draw, they can do it on name alone; if anything it's System that have that problem.

Kind of agree with you on AB, although when you consider the other gigs going on around the time (Green Day, Rammstein etc) probably had to plump for the biggest name he could and seems System trump AB.

Too early to judge but seems an alright, though standard DL start

I'm pretty sure we'll see In Flames, Dragonforce, Bullet for my Valentine, Killswitch Engage and Trivium on the line-up.

Is it me or is booking SOAD financial suicide? They haven't released anything from the studio in 14 years and by the look of it, they don't plan to anytime soon.
