Seeing them at HRH Vikings, but you can't have too much of a good thing. Count me in!

Already got my ticket for Sheffield. Otherwise I'd have been there. Borknagar are a truly outstanding band.

They're good but up and down, love the first 2 albums with the amazing Garm on vocals, but they went down after that when they got Vortex warlbling all over the place; Vortex generally ruins every band he's involved with anyway (see also Dimmu Borgir and Arcturus).

Having said that, they've got back on form recently, Winter Thrice was good, and the new album is brilliant. Will see them in December at Eindhoven Metal Meeting, but maybe I'll go to this too full the full headline set.

Ha ha. No. The first Vortex album is arguably the best thing they've done IMHO.

Haha, no. The Archaic Course is arguably the worst thing they've done IMHO.

It's got one very good song in Oceans Rise, but it's messy as fuck, the vocals are all over the place and the production is horrible, plus it contains that awful Ad Noctem song, which people seem to like but I hate.

Empiricism was great, and they got back on track after that, but the first few Vortex albums were really ropey.

And none of their albums really compare with their first 2, when they had one of the best singers ever in Garm.

Well, it's all subjective. But for me, the three successive albums in the form of "The archaic course", "Quintessence" and "Empiricism" are easily the highlight of their career and are as strong a run of high quality albums as any other band I can think of.
