Fantasy Booking: An Experiment - The Forum Books BOA '19

Postby Haldamir319 » Sat Mar 03, 2018 9:18 am

One of the latest posts in the next announcement thread made mention to thrash looking like it was getting the short end of the stick this year. This got me thinking - why does any genre have to have a 'short end of the stick'?

At the same time, I have been thinking about the different tastes the regular forumers on here have and how, no matter the line-up, you get a (usually different) pocket of people each year saying that it doesn't look good to them.

So, I thought we could combine the two. Could we, as a forum, put together a realistic looking festival line-up that gives each of the regulars on here enough of what they like to say it is a decent line-up / one they would be interested in attending?

For me, the main crux is to look at the top 3 slots on the main stage, as well as the headliners on the Sophie stage, and try and spread a wide variety of genres across them.

What do people think? Interested in giving it a bash? My suggestion would be to go through it groups of bands for the same level slot at a time - ie, start with the 3 main stage headliners etc.

Try to find a line up that pleases everyone? That sounds like a tough call and would probably end up highlighting how difficult it is to put these festivals together. I'm not sure I get how you're proposing to do it though, do we nominate three bands per slot until we find three that the majority like?

I think that it needs to be a realistic line up that will sell tickets for the size of the boa crowd. So no small power metal band headlining. Should also be financially sensible so no rammstein headlining.

Are we discounting what's on this year? Both Priest and Nightwish would have been near the top end of my wish list. ...and Emperor... and Watain!

I would say to discount 2018, yes.

Agree on the point about the right sized bands too.

I would say clutch as a smaller headliner.
Volbeat as a bigger headliner. Although they might charge quite a bit considering their size on the continent.
The final headliner can be a traditional metal band to please the old boys.

Yeah this sounds like a good idea. I think picking 3 bands each for every slot and then everyone voting on them sounds like the best process

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea.

My 3:
Sabaton
Killswitch Engage
Alice Cooper

I'll let this run for a bit and see how many responses we get over the next day or so, then chuck them into a poll.

Tool
Sabaton
Scorpions.

Surely there won't be any consensus as everyone will just pick different bands?

Christ on a bike! What's happened to the Bloodstock Forum?

Most of you have absolutely terrible taste in music.
“He likes having the ball, playing football, passes. It’s like an orchestra. But it’s a silent song. But I like heavy metal more. I always want it loud.” - Jürgen Klopp
