Evil Scarecrow - Special setlist with Crabulon and Robototron alternating until the late night curfew hits.

King 810 - A Capella as the other band members were detained at customs

and the Sunday headliners would be the Strongman competitors with a compelling open mic performance.

If we're starting at the headliners and working our way down then surely crowd favorites are going to be what's wanted? So something along the lines of Judas Priest, King Diamond, Immortal or Alice Cooper. Going to be easier when you get to the undercard because people would be willing to trade off one booking for another as there are quite a few slots going.

Volbeat are good fun (normally) and massive on the continent thohg they've never really cracked the UK.

I'd happily have Manowar or Helloween one night, Sodom (but they're probably not big enough), possibly Lamb of God / Machine Head.

As for Gandalf's rant about Download or Reading bands - the first time I saw Slayer was at Reading and DL and BS have always had some level of crossover.

Sabaton, Ghost, and Alice Cooper.

King Diamond or Anthrax would also be very good.

The first time I saw Alice Cooper was at Reading in the mid 1980s.

My point was Download didn't want to know Heavy Metal bands until Bloodstock became established. You might have got one or two, but they were always the bands that Kerrang hyped up such as Sepultura or Cradle Of Filth.

But my stance still stands. if you want to watch alternative bands then go to Download there are loads of them there.

We have ONE major Heavy Metal festival and people want to turn it into a mini Download.

Oh sorry, I didn't realise we were supposed to be avoiding repeats.

We weren't. I was just pointing out that everyone complains about repeats and then asks for bands that have already played.

So, rather frustratingly, it doesn't look like polls are available on here.

Instead, I propose people reply, assigning points to 5 bands. So:

5pts - band
4pts - band
3pts - band
2pts - band
1pt - band

etc

Here's the list of suggested artists that received multiple nominations, alphabetised:

Alice Cooper
Anthrax
Clutch
Ghost
Killswitch Engage
King Diamond
Manowar
Sabaton
Scorpions
Trivium
Volbeat

Last time I looked, Scorpions and Priest were charging the same amount for summer festival bookings, so never say never...

Judas Priest is the headliner most people wanted for years, and Nightwish are a solid booking, so hard to think of too many else - besides Manowar you either get bands that have already played, bands that aren't "big" enough, or bands that would be better suited to Download. Wouldn't mind seeing them just stack the lineup each day rather than try to go for big headliners in years to come - have 4-5 bands of SG/third on the bill status. If you look at Summer Breeze, Party San, Brutal Assault they seem better at this.

5 points - Manowar
4 points - King Diamond
3 points - Alice Cooper

Don't like any of the other bands, but I guess for best of a bad bunch, 2 points Scorpions and 1 point Anthrax. But I really wouldn't want to see Anthrax bumped up to headliner.

Stuff like Volbeat, Trivium, Killswitch Engage, Ghost, Clutch - just go to Download and leave the metal festivals alone FFS.

I would say stuff like the above was more metal than rock. Admittedly, they are one of those bands that exist on the borderline.
