And a number of people don't seem to like ACTUAL extreme metal, so we get these watered down versions that are really just folk or post.

I'm one of them ;-) But equally, people here are claiming bands with harsh vocals are melodic, which is just as daft.

I mean you have melodic death and black metal, but most of those bands are total arse, especially MDM, but yeah I get your point. I didn't suggest any harsh vocal bands in the melodic part though.

Yeah that's the trouble with suggesting by genre, some people would like to go one way others another. I probably picked bands better suited to the Sophie stage, because I don't like that many bigger extreme metal bands, whereas someone else would be the opposite. Not limiting people might just lead to loads of power metal though - not that thats a bad thing.

None of my favourite extreme metal bands are suitable for Bloodstock, but I have picked ones which are - I'll go to Kill Town and Never Surrender for the true kvlt shit, but some of these picks don't really even count.

Bleh, some of my picks may vaguely fit into those genres, but mostly if I were to pick for those genres I just wouldn't bother so I'm just going to pick a few I like. Disqualify me if you want but it's likely no one else would pick them anyway

Kingmaker: Fen, Solstifir, Eluveitie, Battle Beast
Other/Mix: Nydvind, Ereb Altor, Black Messiah, XIV Dark Centuries, Thyrfing, Einherjer

Extreme: Satanic Warmaster, Horna, Mgla, Borknagar
Melodic: Unleash The Archers, Twilight Force, Almanac, Isole
Prog: I really don't know much about prog! (Vuur? Could Angra count? Oh, Anathema! Erm.... Phil Collins).
Other: Cirith Ungol.
Welcome to a brave new world/ The future here or haven't you heard?

I really struggled with picking melodic and prog bands as it's not the type of thing I usually listen to  I included some melo-death because that counts as melodic right? :eyes:

I pick melo-death because I don't like death

I have to say, I'm most disappointed no one else has nominated Evil Scarecrow! I suggest we give them an automatic spot on the bill to give this whole thing a sense of believability :D

Mine

Extreme -
Wolves in the Throne Room, Chthonic, Carach Angren, Sleepwalker

Melodic -
Twilight Force, Angra, Galneryus, Edguy

Prog / Post -
Ghost Bath, Solstafir, Alcest

Other / Any -
Ne Obliviscaris

Which means we have the following 25 bands with multiple nominations:

Alcest
Anathema
Angra
Battle Beast
Beast in Black
Blaze Bayley
Boris
Borknagar
Chthonic
Dying Fetus
Edguy
Einherjer
Eluveitie
Fen
Galneryus
Leprous
Ne Obliviscaris
Power Trip
Solstafir
Twilight Force
Unleash the Archers
Vuur
Warbringer
Whispered
Wolves in the Throne Room

I'm gonna *love* keeping track of this one but... same drill as before:

5pts: band, band, band
4pts: band, band, band
3pts: band, band, band
2pts: band, band, band
1pts: band, band, band

5 pts - Alcest, Solstafir, Wolves in the Throne Room
4 pts - Blaze Bayley, Power Trip, Warbringer

There's no-one else in that list I give much of a shit about if I'm honest but for the sake of completion!

3pts - Borknagar, Chthonic, Edguy
2pts - Dying Fetus, Eluveitie, Fen
1pt - Twilight Force...(really struggling now!), Einherjer, Ne Obliviscaris

So here's where all the actual extreme metal (what little even counts or made it) gets filtered out. Again.

5 - Vuur, Dying Fetus, Boris
4 - Alcest, Anathema, WITTR
3 - Power Trip, Chthonic, Borknagar

Couldn't care less about the rest, I just don't actively dislike these.
2 - Einherjer, Whispered, Twilight Force
1 - Warbringer, Angra, Unleash the Archers

I will never understand the obsession with Fen in the UKBM underground. If they're crap playing tiny venues in London, they'll probably be crap on the mainstage. I don't even dislike post-black metal, there's plenty of decent albums in the scene but I can't get to the end of an album of theirs.
