I bet Gandalf would hate it.

 ! Personally I would love to see a Bloodstock documentary :D It's been mentioned a lot previously so it could be on the cards!

My prediction is that they're finally booking Kalmah. :P

If you can't see the reasons for that, there is little point continuing the discussion. Bloodstock completely screwed over WT by having them headline on a day when they hadn't booked a single other melodic band. It's no surprise that WT didn't go down well (indeed, I predicted it before the festival). That's not a fault of the band or a reflection of the size of their fanbase, it's purely due to some boneheaded decisions made by the Bloodstock booking team. I'm a little concerned that Nightwish will suffer a similar fate this year, but at least the situation isn't quite as bad this time around.

I was looking forward to Within Temptation, but they did themselves no favours with that set list. I came away disappointed.

Apologies in advance, physically long post (due to lists) incoming...

I thought WT's set was solid tbf. I do agree with Tet though, the line-up on that day was not overly condusive to getting day ticketers to come for a WT headlining set.

Here were the bands playing that day:

Main stage

Within Temptation
Opeth
Death DTA
Dark Angel
Napalm Death
Korpiklaani
1349
Xerath
Savage Messiah

2nd

Fleshgod Apocalypse
Jettblack
Planet of Zeus
Burgerkill
Mordred
Battalion
Godsized
Jasad
Ethereal
Ageless Oblivion
Anihilated
Pist

3rd

Victorian Whore Dogs
Sumer
From Eden to Exile
Akarusa Yami
Bloodyard
Codex Alimentarius
Soulborn
Martyr De Mona
Chaos Trigger
Mastiff
Overoth
Deified
Amethyst

4th

Hanowar
Morass of Molasses
Knock Out Kaine
Circle Spectre Haunting
Pig Iron
Devine Solace

Personally, I didn't mind the day at all - I have quite a wide and varied taste, so had things to watch all day.

However, day tickets are (in theory) geared towards the headliner of the day and a few other key acts. People that may have been tempted (pardon the pun) would naturally look down the bill to see if there's any other bands that fit their tastes. Looking at the bands above, there isn't much that stands out as natually complementing WT.

That's true, and the one band who would have been vaguely tempting to the average WT fan (Korpiklaani) were unbelievably shite that day.

No announcements which seemed a little strange :? Must still be sorting contracts or have bands that are touring the UK soon...

Yea that's the first time they've not announced anyone since I started going in 2014. I didn't go this year, the line up just wasn't good enough. Maybe they blew the next two years budget on Priest so not only did this years line up suffer but they have no budget for next year either
More likely scenario is they are gunning for someone really great and haven't got things confirmed yet, fingers crossed. for me the line up can only be better next year overall, I was only interested in Friday this year and even then couldn't be arsed with it

Personally I'd love Behemoth to headline, Sabaton, Accept or Helloween and someone like Devin townsend, Dream Theatre or Amorphis. Would love a much stronger undercard next year too and hope for some class this time and a more evenly spread budget. Lets get hungry metal hearts like Blaze Bayley and Accept, Vader, Insomnium, Death Angel. Also want to see some great newer death metal bands like Alkaloid, Obscura, Nails, Revocation, Skeletal Remains and some classics like Mayhem, Autopsy or Hypocrisy. I'd book a good festival with some silly fun bands too, put me in charge next year

Deal. Played a gig with them once can’t remember who headlined but it was one hell of a night, trashed the place. I’ll book them for you, they’re good crack

They didn't for 2017's festival, they didn't announce anyone until November? and then it was like 8 bands.

So the question becomes, when do you think the first announcement will be?

I'm sure someone quoted Vicky as saying the next 2-3 weeks, but I only got that 2nd / 3rd / 4th hand.
