"Exactly. It seems to me that even though it's a metal festival the majority of Bloodstock fans aren't quite open to Metalcore. Each to their own of course but metal is metal regardless of a sub genre label."
I must admit, my inner arsehole really enjoys tweaking the noses of the metalcore kiddies with "it's not metal, it's a badly labelled sub-genre of punk; problem is the punks don't like it either".
They knew it would be controversial and should've added another 2 bands with it, or at least added another few straight after to soften some of the backlash.
Insulting your regular attendees in favour of people who say they've never gone but will now PWD have been booked is a ridiculous PR move. And it's frustrating the same people are saying things along the lines of "why can't you elitists change - you can't have the same bands over and over and over" - but that isn't even what a lot of people want. So many bands are asked for year after year which have never played, or not for 5 years plus, and even when they're touring they never get booked - in favour of stuff like Code Orange, thy art is murder, PWD etc.
'15 was my last year due to better lineups elsewhere, and most of my festival friends haven't gone since the same year, but I always felt I would return to BOA if they had a lineup I really liked one year because the atmosphere is great. Now I don't think I will ever go back if they're going to hurl insults and clearly try and attract a different kind of crowd.
