One difference though is that at Wacken, there will be another 2-3 stages with bands on at the same time.

And the Wacken organisers havent been trying to wind people up about the announcement.

From a personal point of view, I don't get them at all. Dull as dishwater. I don't think they are the best fit for the festival either. HOWEVER, I wouldn't have said anything about it or made a thing about it if the organisers hadn't taken the opinion that I am wrong not to like them, and that I am less welcome at BOA because I don't like them.

I don't need patronising about how they are a metal band playing a metal festival

It's kind of like the festival organizer equivalent of mansplaining.

To be fair I don't think the organisers would've been so arrogant about it had people not overreacted so much in the first place. It seems like they've taken the 'we'll give back as good as we get' approach now. Yes, people are entitled to their opinion, and people can even slag off a band like they did with Ghost without getting called out on it. However, this is a completely different scale. I've seen comments wishing bankruptcy on the festival, and then even comments (that have been swiftly deleted) wishing illness or even death on the organisers and the band. Over the top much? If people were just a bit dignified in first place and said something like 'absolute rubbish, I'll be in the bar' then I don't think they'd be so eager to knock people down a level. Can't expect to act like a complete bellend and not be pulled up about it.

Saying that, retweeting the cunts post was a ridiculous decision, especially considering the 'family friendly' stance they like to take. As I've said before, the whole thing is pathetic now and both sides need to just get over it and get on with their lives. It's a music festival, not the end of the world

Very true, wishing death on the band is in very bad taste considering what they went through over the last few years...

I must admit, my inner arsehole really enjoys tweaking the noses of the metalcore kiddies with "it's not metal, it's a badly labelled sub-genre of punk; problem is the punks don't like it either".

Next to the Cradle of Filth shirts it's going to look like a protest against Dani Filth

I've sat out much of the PwD discussion and just watched, it's been entertaining and a good lesson in how not to do social media.

^Literally that.

They knew it would be controversial and should've added another 2 bands with it, or at least added another few straight after to soften some of the backlash.

Insulting your regular attendees in favour of people who say they've never gone but will now PWD have been booked is a ridiculous PR move. And it's frustrating the same people are saying things along the lines of "why can't you elitists change - you can't have the same bands over and over and over" - but that isn't even what a lot of people want. So many bands are asked for year after year which have never played, or not for 5 years plus, and even when they're touring they never get booked - in favour of stuff like Code Orange, thy art is murder, PWD etc.

'15 was my last year due to better lineups elsewhere, and most of my festival friends haven't gone since the same year, but I always felt I would return to BOA if they had a lineup I really liked one year because the atmosphere is great. Now I don't think I will ever go back if they're going to hurl insults and clearly try and attract a different kind of crowd.

I wonder what the likelihood of getting Abbath in all his drunken glory in the Sophie tent is? On that note do we reckon the next announcement will be filling in the blanks on the main stage or the first meaningful Sophie announcement?

Abbath headlining the tent would be unbelievably good! Can't see it happening though unfortunately

So which bands are likely for the Sophie tent do we reckon? I'm still hopeful for Unleash the Archers

Napalm Death playing Boomtown on the 8th (the Thursday of BOA) August, chances of them also turning up at BOA? Would improve any of the days (not hard to do for the Saturday)

i0th wrote:I do hope there's some Sophie news beyond the headliners, we had bands announced on Sophie by this time last year.

Unless they move on their usual 4-5 bands announcements then the next announcement has to have other stages included, only 5 more main stage bands to go if it's the usual 9 bands a day.

Also, there's a depressing thought, only 2 more bands for the Saturday mainstage, never going to be able to salvage it :eyes:

Gamma Ray are playing festival shows... A bit of decent power metal would go a long way to balancing out the po-faced metalcore bands

I'd be overjoyed to see Unleash The Archers at Bloodstock, but I won't be getting my hopes up.
