Maybe we've got it all wrong anyway and they saw how empty Jutenheim was last year and decided they didn't need to pay for that field again but sales are still in line with last year. Or maybe last year was a massive spike for Priest and it's back to normal again this year.

I think it totally depends on day ticket sales. They've been pushing Parkway hard, I'm seeing more of sponsored posts and adverts specifically for them at Bloodstock than I am for the fest as a whole. If weekend tickets are down but Saturday does really well, I think we'll see a lot more of that kind of thing.

I'd be very interested to see the numbers on this. I understand a festival wanting to supplement their numbers with day ticket sales but if it actually has come at the expense of weekend tickets, then surely that's not a good thing?

This has been done for a while - Slayer and Rob Zombie had the biggest single days attendance to their dates, so booking a 'Download band' has worked in the past. The opposite is Mastodon, a 'big' band but also marketed as the 'metal band for people who don't like metal' in the likes of the Guardian, so much of their crowd wouldn't be at BOA, and it showed in that their crowd was sparser around the edges than the special guests like Anthrax.

As for the campsites, if they were barely used last year, then no point having them if they'll fit elsewhere..

Not sure the removal of the extra campsite is reflective of a drop in ticket sales, rather the fact that it was barely used/needed last year. Glad to see we're finally getting some bogs in the quiet camp rather than having to head to the big queues in Midgaard.

Depends on what caused the addition/removal really. If it was needed for insurance/licensing issues (i.e. x number of people = x amount of land for camping) then the removal of the campsite must mean lower sales or it would be open again. If it was just they thought the space might be needed but wasn't yet then it doesn't tell us much.

It must be insulting for the other headliners at the festival that the only advert that seems to be promoted on social media is one saying its nearly time for Parkway Drive. They really are promoting the shit out of them, they're obviously insecure about their appeal otherwise they wouldn't be doing it.

Targeted advertising; push the band with a bigger profile among the younger demographic onto a platform used mostly by that same demographic.

I've seen quite a few for the Scorpions as well. Very few for Sabaton oddly, only one saying their album came out. Maybe that's just because they know they'll do well.

I would be surprised if Sunday has a poor attendance. The line up is much stronger than Saturday and most folk I know want to see the Scorpions.

I've only spoken to a few folk who will be watching PD.

That's true. As much as they're banking on loads of metalcore kids who wouldn't buy weekend tickets coming in just for the Saturday, they've also tailored the Sunday to suit the older, planet-rock crowd by having Dee Snider and Queensryche on as well - potential for a bump in Sunday day ticket sales there.

Friday's got the most bands I'm most looking forward to seeing (Sabaton, Powerwolf, Bodom, Death Angel, Grand Magus & Coutless Skies all in my must see list) but overall it's the Sunday that's the strongest day want to see all the top 7 on Dio, 9 of the Sophie bands and 5 on Hobgoblin as well, gonna be a hectic day!

So do you think stage times will be 5th of August as per usual? (the Monday of week of the fest)

I'm expecting them then though they've been known to be on the app sooner.

Talking of the app, here's what's showing for evening entertainment:

Thursday: DJ C'HUNKS
Friday: FEEDBACK CLUB NIGHT (could this be related to the new Feedback Radio station?)
Saturday: DJ SPOONICUS
Sunday: DJ ASHA

All in the Sophie stage, nothing listed in Hobgoblin atm (beyond the announced bands) so don't know if there's gonna be movies or anything.

I might go watch the movies on Thursday then as I don't care for any of the Thursday bands.
