Mercyful Fate/King Diamond, Helloween, Saxon, Amon Amarth, ZZ Top, Alice Cooper, Accept, Judas Priest : If at least two of these are not in the headline/SG/hour slot and substituted with sub-Copping hipster metal bands then BOA can GTF next year

Watching some piss awful shouty version of Holy Diver is not what envisage for this "20 year anniversary"

I get the joke and all that but when the old guard inevitably pass away these will be the bands that will stock the line up of festivals. So...yeah, they are the future of metal!

Not to come over all metal archives, but really ? there's plenty of life in the metal-metal scene (even thrash !) outside of screamocore - & I can't really see someone like Parkway Drive or Architects, big as they are now commercially, touring the world in 20 years time in a 747 with their name down the side ? or anyone arguing about the proficiency of their guitarists, vocalists, drummers, relative to the greats ?

It just reminds of me how rap metal was the future 20 years ago, now they're all washed up on the millennial nostalgia pile, along with the Spice Girls and Adidas.

Just about any band that gets billed as "the future" never lives up to the hype, who predicted the success of Ghost, Sabaton, Volbeat? There are plenty of bands that are popular simply because people like their music, not because a label is trying to push them as the next big thing.

But who in metal apart from Maiden has a private jet with the band name on anymore? It is just so...80s much like the general attitude to current metal. Dont get me wrong I love Maiden and plenty of other classic acts but surely everyone can see their days are numbered?

Additionally, Ed force One was commissioned for the somewhere back in time tour in 08' that means Iron Maiden had been a band for 33 years before they got their private jet. If ones mathematics are correct that means Killswitch have 13 years to become jet worthy metal otherwise they dont get to be the future of metal

A lot of European festivals have announced their headliners so going to be a case of picking which ones we get.

Also, noticed At The Gates are doing Slaughter of the Souls anniversary shows next year, only played 2018 so think we're likely to get them (after their UK tour)?

ATG played under Nightwish in 2018 - if we're unlikely to get Priest, are we likely to get one of the subs ?

Still a great album and band but even the greatest fan must admit his voice is completely shot
sounds more like Zed from the Police Academy films these days
and SG status for a band who havent exactly done a roaring trade on their last UK tours, I`m sort of hoping for better, y`know 20th anniversary la la la la and all that

Announcement Tuesday?

Feel good being rude? Whatever floats your boat I guess?

To answer the question properly: Emperor have probably played too recently, and in the SG slot, so I'd say it's highly doubtful they would headline nowadays.
