Thanks for the 'God Bless America' recommendations. I am Frank. Without the murdering of course! Loved it.

Iron Sky
Saw a trailer for this in the Cinema on Sunday. It's a finnish film about nazi's who escape to the moon, then decide to invade 70 years later. From the trailer I'm expecting lots of special effect and cheese, but really that's all I could want from nazi's in space. Trailer and website below:

This, very much this! Watching it as we speak, and I love it so far. I am definitely a bit of a Frank, but like Soze, without the murders.

Re: movies
The SFX review of Iron Sky said it was really disappointing and not half as much fun as the trailer made it out to be. I'll still give it a watch when it hits DVD though.

Cabin in the Woods - very good, a very interesting take on the teen horror genre. I wasn't quite blown away though. Joss Whedon's "let's make EVERYONE a smart arse" dialogue style didn't annoy me as much as I thought it would.
Agree with both of these, I thought I was going to hate Cabin In the Woods, but really enjoyed it. It felt like it got very lazy in the last 10-15 minutes though, could have had a better ending.
In the last two days I've watched two relatively similar films.
Battle: Los Angeles: Utter tripe. Wooden acting, awful awful CGI, terrible dialogue, no plot, and just a load of pretty practically faceless marines shouting 'Staff Sergeant' a lot.
Battleship: A bit silly in places, but a really enjoyable film, a lot of the best elements of Bruckheimer movies (the glossy feel, bright hues, humour, and most of all heart). CGI was good, acting was as expected (not award winning, but passable). Just a really enjoyable film, and decent soundtrack too

Update on a few I've watched lately:
Rango - Johnny Depp as a Chameleon who behaves very similarly to his portrayal of Hunter S Thompson in Fear and Loathing. Very entertaining film, one of those with as much to offer the kids as it does the adults, and proudly confirms that Johnny Depp can be awesome as just about any character. 8/10
Wrath of the Titans - I hadn't seen either version of Clash of the Titans before going into this. Basically a mate was bored and wanted to see it, and I'm always up for checking something new out. Seems not having seen the first Titans movie didn't matter too much, as I fully got what was going on. Plenty of big beastie battles and an excellent cast made for a pretty enjoyable film. Big, dumb, fun. 7/10
God Bless America - Similarities to Falling Down were apparent, but not enough to have any effect on the film itself. If anything, it's almost like a more bloodthirsty, modern retread of it. Stands up on its own very well though, so we'll leave that there. I lost a bit of attention around the middle, but overall liked it. Don't know how much rewatch value it has though.. 6/10
Got a few more lined up after my spree in Norwich recently. As stated in the "Last DVD/BluRay You Bought" thread:
Clash of the Titans (2010 and 1981 versions), Q - The Winged Serpent, The Rage (2007), The Serpent and The Rainbow, The Last Lovecraft.
Also got from Lovefilm:
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Persepolis, Borderland.
Good job I've got tomorrow off work too

Re: movies
cheers for the shout out for 'God Bless America', have to say it was one of the best movies I've watched in a while; and I think like a lot of straight thinking people I could compare with alot of views of Frank etc. but without the killing.
I think it would be interesting to see how someone caught up in all the stuff they fight against would perceive the film actually.

BLOODY BIRTHDAY
Halloween. Friday the 13th. Black Christmas. Prom Night. Mother's Day. April Fool's Day. Happy Birthday to Me. My Bloody Valentine.
Since the '70s, slasher films have tended to gravitate towards specific dates on the calendar for maximum effect. Bloody Birthday settles on a fairly unoriginal date and continues in the same vein from there.
Three children are born during a solar eclipse as Saturn is blocked while other planets align. Some contrived and fake expositional history later and we understand this is a bad thing and that anyone born during this eclipse will be completely devoid of human emotion and become murdering psychopaths. Obviously.
As their tenth birthday draws near, the killer kiddies decide to shoot guns, fire arrows, aim cars at people, smash faces with spades and strangle anybody they take a dislike to.
It's cheap, the acting is lousy, the script makes little to no sense, and overall it really isn't worth the effort. Village of the Damned, The Omen, and even long forgotten Macauley Culkin vehicle The Good Son proved kids can be seriously creepy. Bloody Birthday just makes you want to give the little bastards a slap.

If you've got an Aussie playing Persius, wouldn't it make sense to have another Aussie playing Zeus?
I would have picked Rolf Harris. He could have used his wobble-board to provide the "thunder" when he threw a lightning bolt.
All right, so I MADE a mistake! ONE MISTAKE!
Can't a man start over?! Do I have to keep on PAYING?! HUH?!
Maybe I should make another mistake! ...maybe TWO more!

To be fair I was thinking "the fuck are all these Brits doing in Greece?"
Then I saw Bill Nighy. Everything is better with Bill Nighy. Liam Neeson, too.

The 'army' in the Avengers has been announced as The Chitauri, which are the ultimates version of The Skrulls. I trust joss knows what he is doing.
