When I went to Osborne House this summer, wearing black jeans and a plain black t-shirt, a middle-eastern chap asked me if I worked there.

WMMLT: Bits of the intro to Gilbert Gottfried's book...

"If I knew one day I'd write a book, I would have tried to live a more interesting life."

"...what the hell am I doing writing a book? It's a perfectly reasonable question. And, it just so happens that I've got a perfectly reasonable answer: I'm writing a book because I have a book deal."
All right, so I MADE a mistake! ONE MISTAKE!
Can't a man start over?! Do I have to keep on PAYING?! HUH?!
Maybe I should make another mistake! ...maybe TWO more!

When I worked at HMV we were made to wear these bright pink tshirts haha.
But yeah the banning long hair and body mods thing is so weird and backwards. Can't figure it out. The press must have exaggerated it somehow.

It's weird, some people at my place have sleeve/neck tattoos and gauges (my former team leader did), some have funny piercings, some people look like hobos or former drug addicts (some blatantly are former drug addicts). Odd considering there's a business casual dress code and we get regular (potential) client visits. A training officer that was there until like a year ago had a beard and hair down to his arse, but always dressed in his finest cream coloured suit jacket and some kind of claymore brooch thing.

At Morrisons when I worked there they had a no tattoos rule which wasn't enforced. Although at one point they were going to make me and around 5 other members of staff wear long-sleeved shirts but that never happened.

Where I work now the dress code is so slack. When I got a new tattoo done the next day I went in a t-shirt with my arm wrapped in cling film and my area manager happened to come in and didn't bat an eyelid.

I'm not massively like "omg everyone has a right to wear whatever they want and get whatever job they want" but it does seem like a bizarre backward step that HMV's making in light of the fact that people have always been used to seeing eccentric looking people working there. It's almost a stereotype for record store owners to look out of the norm. What sort of demographic is going to go into HMV and be turned away by the appearance of the staff?

What's the source of this alleged policy change?

I've had several jobs where they've had the no tattoos/piercings policy, but it's always been because the job has required working with children.

I'm not quite sure why children would be so traumatized by tattoos and piercings, admittedly when I was younger I found men with big beards and lot's of tattoo's intimidating, but that's probably just because I'd grown up not seeing anyone like that.
...Which isn't a good thing, I used to think all black people all came from Africa and were just here on holiday  Kid's should be exposed to all kids of cultures, else they grow up narrow minded.

In relation to the HMV tattoo thing. Today one of my bosses (Area Manager) told me I'm not allowed to wear my black long sleeve under my work shirt anymore. He says I have to be approachable to customers and my long sleeve shirt prevents that... cause burns and scars are totally more approachable.. stupid twat, ha.

Finally got round to watching Amulet's music video. I'd love to know what they filmed it on to make it look so old and shitty. It's fucking brilliant!

That's one of my favourite ever videos actually. You wouldn't believe how much of their own money they spent on that

That happens a lot. I nipped into B&Q once after work when I was at ASDA. Got asked where stuff was about 3 times.

I was in Sports Direct a few weeks ago, wearing my tracksuit bottoms and battered Helloween hoody as is my usual fare. Some lady asked me asked me to reach for something on a high peg. She came back a few minutes later asking questions - it turned out she thought I worked there. To be honest I was more help than the halfwit staff they had on that day.

WWMLT, the girls in the office winding me up when they found out I'm single. They're trying to marry me off to one of the Polish girls at our temporary off-site. :eyes:
