There's nothing wrong with laptops for gaming. My Dell XPS runs everything very nicely and has never overheated. Not sure if it's other laptops which have a problem or if the "never buy gaming laptops" thing is outdated by now. It's a far better option if you ever want to play somewhere that isn't your room, which for me is nearly 100% of the time.

Anyway, for building your own PC, if you want something good, here's a list of parts you'll be wanting.

Nothing wrong with them, they're just a lot more difficult to upgrade.

Speaking of upgrades...
paint jobs and cockpit items just went live on MechWarrior online. This may get expensive...

Half Life/The Orange Box....

Postby Wibble » Wed Nov 28, 2012 3:25 pm

A noob to the series but completed HL2 and Portal. Really awesome games. I have to say I'm not normally head over heels for a first person shooter or puzzlers but the games had me gripped. I do play little COD, but usually online. Can we expect a HL3 soon? Will they re-release HL1 or do I need to dig out my PS2? Also can anyone recommend similar games that I may have overlooked? I only really use my PS3/360 for gaming.

Unfortunately this. Also, there is a computer gaming thread which this could have gone in, and I'm sure a mod will end up putting it there.

The original Half-Life is still my favourite though, the Black Mesa Source reboot of it is pretty good, but the original is still better :D

EDIT: If you're going to play the original don't play it on the playstation, it is a PC game that is infinitely better on it's original platform.
Steam = Starchild

Catch me at:

2023
Gojira - London
Sabaton - London

Yeah kind of thought that was the case about HL3. Maybe PS4. Doing the Portal 2 co-op having completed that too. Nearly finished it. Not sure how good my laptop will be with the original HL, don't really use it for gaming but will bare that in mind.

Well this thread is about a specific game/series which would get lost in post upon post so kinda hard to discuss. I don't see a prob with it as long as it the thread title states clearly which it does.

As much as video games are an interesting topic, there's already a thread

Valve tend to make great games, nothing new here.

The original half life was released in what, 98? It ran fine on my utter pump mid-range computer that came out in 1998 so a modern laptop, even a fucking smart phone, will piss it on max chat.

I guarantee it's gonna be like Duke Nukem Forever. Gets delayed and delayed, etc etc and then when it's finally released it won't be able to live up to the expectations people have built up after waiting like 12 years.

Thinking very strongly on downloading the add on packs for Dead Island. I rather like how fantastically violent that game is.

Why aren't we talking about https://www.humblebundle.com/ right now. £3.60 for SR3 alone is worth it.

If I didn't already own Metro 2033, I would be seriously tempted.

And, it's kind of ruining the whole meaning of what the Humble Bundles were originally about. They were originally brought independent developers together and helped them reach a large audience without needing massive marketing campaigns or publishers. Now it's a fire sale for one particular publisher to try and claw back some cash because they're at serious risk of going bankrupt.
