I've ordered Magnum Force which I'll hopefully watch next week.

Magnum Force is excellent too, but not as good as Dirty Harry.

The Enforcer isn't bad, but not as good again.

Sudden Impact is a bit better (and also features the classic "Go ahead, make my day" line).

The Dead Pool is bollocks but worth watching for an early appearance by Jim Carrey, and a cameo from Guns'n'Roses.

Easy A is excellent. Emma Stone is a genuinely good comedy actress.

Also dem eyes.

I quite liked it, especially the references to 80's films, both in the scene where she literally talks of them and you see clips, but also the smaller references like making a dress like in pretty in pink, the singing of Go Down Moses like Ferris Bueller, the teacher doing the mess with the bull get the horns thing from the Breakfast Club, and a few others I picked up on. I don't know what to say really other than it was a good funny film, with just enough drama in to make you care, but not enough to change the tone and make it too serious.

Been telling people to watch this film for ages. Really overlooked little gem. Also Stanley Tucci and Patricia Clarkson nail it as the parents. Oh and Emma Stone wears a variety of sexy outfits. Win!

Definitely agree about the parents, the whole family dynamic was great.

Also, yes, Emma Stone, phwoar. I'd only previously seen her in Movie 43, which made me instantly think less of her participating in that abomination, but I think the attainable girl next door with the gorgeous eyes, and cheeky grin really does it for me in easy A. Now perhaps it's me liking the character rather than the actress, but whatever, I still would

I watched Mud again.
I still maintain it's one of my favourites from this year. I love the sort of youthful want to believe in love and the infallibility of those you look up to. And the sort of fathers and sons, Snake metaphors, coming to terms with an ever changing world, and ultimately (yep you guessed it) coming of age. Really great atmosphere too, it really evokes the feeling of being there. (that sentence feels clumsy to me, but I'm not sure how else to put it. ) You should all make it your mission to see it if you haven't yet.

Later we're going watching Blue Jasmine, followed by Goodfellas showing this evening at the Odeon in Manchester. So I'm looking forwards to that, as I've still not seen it. But people are telling me that if I liked Casino (which I very much did), I should love Goodfellas.

Well I wasn't disappointed by Goodfellas at all. I don't know if the print was a bit worn out, or it was a problem with the projector, but it seemed a bit hazy and edges seemed a bit blurred, and during the credits someone either knocked the projector, or the film is knackered, but the bottom half of the credits were suddenly at the top of the screen, with the rest cut off.

Blue jasmine was good, I liked it, but didn't feel like I cared enough about them for me to love the film. Plus pacing was a bit of an issue, I felt like it felt longer than Goodfellas did later despite being an hour shorter. I was impressed with both Sally Hawkings and Cate Blanchet though.
I know Sally Hawkins from Submarine, Made in Dagenham and Never Let Me Go, and in all of them, she's a shy, quaint, little English woman. So to see her as an american, and one that seems so different to everything I'd seen her do before was a pleasant surprise. I hadn't seen she was in it before watching, and I actually found myself convinced that it wasn't her and was just someone who looked like her as I was sure the woman portraying the character was an american.

I'd say so. It was definitely one of my favourites that year. Sally Hawkins isn't a major character, but she's significant. It's a bit depressing at times, but I find it strangely cathartic. I won't give too much away though.

DRACULA 3D

Italian director Dario Argento tries his hand at recreating the classic Dracula story with the help of some really bad actors.
Bad actors are nothing new to Argento. In fact, some of his best films feature some truly appalling performances, but this is definitely not one of his best. In fact, I'm being kind.
It's terrible.
On the plus side of things, it has some nice death scenes (an upward bullet through the brain hints at Argento at his finest), and a girl with a magnificent pair of tits. And that's it.

Other than that...

Asia Argento gets naked for her dad again. And it's still creepy.
And she still can't act.
Dracula is a giant owl.
The soundtrack seems to have been supplied by Theremins'R'Us
Dracula is a swarm of CGI flies.
Bad cockney accents.
Wolf in the face!
Rutger Hauer arrives and looks embarrassed for the rest of the film.
Dracula is a giant green praying mantis.
Yes.
A giant green praying mantis.
Dracula gets shot.
I don't know why it's 3D.

Bloody hell.

ah Drac 3D, heard very shit things about it, Argento really is churning out some serious shit these days....is it worse than Giallo and Mother of Tears though?!

Just saw Insidious Chapter 2 at the cinema - messy, confusing and really not scary in the slightest; majorly dissappointing considering how ace the first one was 4/10.

It's even worse than The Card Player.

FRIGHT NIGHT 2: NEW BLOOD

When I heard there was going to be a remake of one of my favourite '80s horror films, Fright Night, I must say I was rather less than receptive to the idea.
In fact, I think I may have even vomited a little.
Nevertheless, I went against every instinct in my body and watched it. And to my surprise it wasn't actually as bad as I'd feared.
Nearly, but not quite.

So when I heard there was a sequel in the works but it was going direct to DVD, I didn't exactly hold my breath for anything too entertaining.
However, rather surprisingly it's not actually too bad.
Sure, it doesn't have David Tennant or Colin Farrell, but on the positive side of things it doesn't have David Tennant or Colin Farrell.

What we do have is actually a pretty faithful remake of the original, but relocated to Romania and just like the 1988 sequel, features a female vampire (the lovely Jaime Murray playing "Gerri" Dandridge instead of "Jerry" Dandridge) sucking on lesbians and munching virgins.
It may be low budget, but it's also gorier and scarier than the recent remake, and aside from a really naff epilogue it's far more enjoyable all round.

6/10

The Kings of Summer

Finally my wait is over, and I feel it's been worth it. I loved the (for want of a better phrase) ethereal nature scenes. Sun through the trees, lots of lens flair, vast woodland landscapes, I love nature, so it was a pleasure to watch from that respect. Very funny too, but got the balance of funny and drama about right. Another fantastic film from this year, and well worth people seeing.
