I do. But even at it's peak in the late 1980s the only major event that tried to have a few Thrash bands on was a total disaster.

That article doesn't mention the facilities. Hardly any food, ran out of beer, no lights between the bands and no pass outs. This was an all day festival. It was a total farce.

I'm not counting Clash Of The Titans as that was reasonably successful. But that was more a tour package rather than a festival.

Trouble is if you had a Thrash Fest you'd get people looking at the name and then slating the line up for not including Metallica and Slayer despite obvious reasons as to why not.

Hmm really? Thrash fans surely know there are other great bands out there! Besides Metallica aren't even thrash any more! Those people can get stuffed!

Mate if people genuinely think the Bloodstock organisers are "pricks for not booking Maiden and AC/DC" then they'd moan at thrash fest

oh wow I didn't know about that It was before my time and sounds like it's something that's better left forgotten. Guess that answers my question of whether a thrash fest could work in the UK.

That was an interesting read, cheers! Did you go then? Just sounds like it was run badly, with proper organisation it could work :p but our festival would have Death Metal too!

The only time anyone tried a major Thrash festival in this country it was that Leeds Christmas On Earth thing. The less said about that the better.

Why??? Admittedly the sound wasn't ideal but then it was in a former tram shed. It remains one of my favourite gigs.

The thing in 2003 that had Testament, Nuclear Assault and Death Angel (as well as a sprinkling of black and death metal bands...I think Amon Amarth and Marduk were on the bill as well?) would easily sell out a 2-4,000 venue in London. But an actual festival would struggle without booking the real big names.

Depends who you booked. Megadeth will sell out Brixton Academy on their own, Slayer have done in the past.

I meant if it was a line up of similar sized bands to the thing in 2003; Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax are obviously much bigger than the other thrash bands around. Something with the likes of Kreator or Testament headlining would be at the Forum at best.

Yes, a Kreator headline...with say <drool> Destruction, Sodom, Tankard and a reformed Deathrow supporting would be Forum size. But it would sell quite well I reckon.

The likes of Testament, Overkill and Exodus tend to just play the Islington Academy now (or has Testament's star risen slightly of late?) But lump them in together with a Death Angel and Sacred Reich and you could bump it up to the Forum. Generally, I wouldn't bother to drive to London and back for any one of those on their own but I definitely would if they were all on the same bill.

I didn't put No Mercy down as it wasn't a pure Thrash festival.

That was a strange night. Pulled some Polish girl by talking about Liverpool goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek and then ended up in the Crobar drinking with Chuck Billy.
