Last gig of the year and ended on a high. Great sound throughout and both supports were great. First time seeing M.O.D. and wow, the band and Billy were on form :D
Got to met Milano afterwards and for all the rep, he's a fun guy to hang with.

Who were the supports in the end? I'd have gone if it wasn't down in New Cross.

Road Mutant and Corpsing. Know what you mean, it's a decent venue and actually reasonably priced but a right pain to get there.

Last gig - Clutch @ Leeds Academy

Final gig of 2019 and a nice end to the year - Clutch got the balance right between the high-tempo rock songs and the more bluesy tracks and thankfully didn't descend into any long, self-indulgent jamming. I knew they had a habit for changing setlists from night to night so disappointed we didn't get 'Mob Goes Wild' but hearing them play 'Shogun Named Marcus' from their first album was a nice surprise. And that cover of 'Fortunate Son' is cracking.

Next gig - all starts again in January with Slipknot in Manchester

They weren't playing in Manchester, so should have gone to Leeds but didn't, then find they played Subtle Hustle :( I think an alternate member picks a setlist each night

Last of the year - Thunder's Xmas gig, Manchester.

First time seeing them in years as the last time, opening for Leppard/Whitesnake, they let their underlying naff-ness bubble over and were far too cheesy. They were far better last night, a great night, but Danny's 'end-of-the-pier' style undermined their version of Stormbringer and Gimme Shelter, on much safer ground with Neil Diamond and Queen.

Last: Orange Goblin Christmas show at the Electric Ballroom
Due to the early start/early finish for a club night bollocks I missed Naut but arrived just in time for Hellripper. What can I say that I haven't already about this great young band. Simply awesome. They played at least one new song which sounded great. Excited to hear what the second album sounds like.
I had very little expectations of Discharge as they're not a band I've really listened to before but they were great. Not really crossover but they play an awesome mix of hardcore, punk and thrash.
Orange Goblin were good, tight, professional but to be honest I got a bit bored of them halfway through.
All finished by 10, went for a Five Guys and was at the station in plenty of time for my train home.

Next: (At the moment) Fontaines DC again in Norwich but that's not until end of Feb.

My last two gigs were British Lion in Islington on Friday and Alter Bridge at the O2 Arena last night. Both were good gigs. The support for British Lion were pretty decent and the main act themselves are much better live than in the studio. I got one of Steve Harris' wristbands after years of trying to get some Iron Maiden stuff and apparently Bruce Dickinson was at the show too! Alter Bridge were good last night and it was nice watching from a seat. I skipped The Raven Age and found Shinedown decent but the singer wastes too much time blethering between songs.

Next is Delain in Bristol in February.

Last Gig: Nekrogoblikon in Swansea, originally I didn’t plan to go since I was seeing them in Leeds anyway but they were so much fun I had to catch them again.

Next Gig: Originally it was supposed to be Insane Clown Posse in Cardiff but they’ve just cancelled, so it’ll be Slipknot in Cardiff instead.

Last gig - Slipknot @ Manchester Arena.

Caught the last 20mins or so of Behemoth's set. Was ok but the songs just sounded the same to me. Nobody can accuse them of half-arsing it live, that's for sure, but it's just not my thing and they didn't really do anything to convince me to watch them for a full 90mins at Bloodstock this year.
Slipknot were excellent as usual. Always put on a great show and play with a level of intensity which is usually lacking from big arena bands. Not sure why they kept walking off for 30 secs - 1min after every other song (possibly to huff oxygen as they're getting on a bit now! haha) but that's a minor point. 'Unsainted' from the new album sounds absolutely huge live.

Next gig - Was gonna be ICP in Sheffield tonight but that's being rescheduled for March so next one is Wildhearts in Manchester at the end of Jan.

Last gig was Insomnium and Conjurer in Norwich last night. Went in knowing very little Insomnium and was very impressed - definitely a band I'll now be listening to a lot more on record! Conjurer were ace as always, and the crowd was surprisingly energetic for Norwich. Decking it on someone's spilled pint in the pit has now left my knees and elbows battered and bruised though - I'm getting too old for this shiz.

Last Slipknot /Behemoth in Newcastle. Both bands were good and I'm glad I got to see Behemoth as I'm probably missing Bloodstock, however, I felt a bit ill so my energy was down a notch.

Next Rhapsody of fire in Manchester!

Last Dimmu Borgir/Amorphis/Wolves In The Throne Room at the Forum last night.

WITTR were good, love the music, just find the "don't say a word to the crowd" stance a bit tedious sometimes.
Amophis were fantastic, setlist focusing mainly on the newer stuff, but we still got once song each from the first 2 albums. Had upstairs ticket but sneaked in downstairs for them.
Dimmu Borgir - went back to sitting upstairs for Dimmu. What has happened to this band? Every song is some overwrought pompous symphonic War Of The Worlds mess, they have the nerve to call themselves black metal, but they're barely even metal these days. They hardly even had much of a stage show apart from some green lights, and the band spent the first 4 or so numbers wearing cloaks with huge hoods up, looking like utter bellends in the process. Mourning Palace was the only older song, played right at the end, and was as much of an awesome headbanger as ever....shame about the hour of dogshit that preceeded it.

Next - maybe The Wildhearts next Saturday (hmmm, should I go?, otherwise nothing planned until Alcest in early March.

Love both Dimmu and Amorphis. Tales is one of my favourite albums ever. I think Amorphis played as many as 3 songs from it (Thousand Lakes including). Dimmu were great IMO. Amorphis were beyond awesome.

You would appear to be right, forgot they played Into Hiding as well as Black Winter Day at the end. The one from The Karelian Isthmus was the big surprise though.

Dimmu I just can't get these days, whereas they used to do awesome metal tracks like Tormentor Of Christian Souls and Spellbound By The Devil, everything is pompous, slow, overdone and tedious these days. Mourning Palace definitely seemed out of place amongst the new songs.
