Re: Metal magazines - PLEASE ANSWER!!!!
I only ever buy a magazine if it contains something I'm actually interested in.
Last one I bought was ZT when they did the Folk/Pagan Metal special.. and that was back when Falkenbach released Heralding - The Fireblade.

It just seems a lot more like metal hammer in terms of layout, and the reviews are now out of 5 instead of 10.
It's not horrendous, but as the first issue I received since subscribing, I was a little disheartened.

i hate reviews out of 5. why even bother? theres very little difference between a great album and a shit one when they're rated out of 5

I agree, and even more so when pretty much everything get's 3 or 4 out of five.
I got metal hammer whilst on holiday. Any bad things I may have said about terrorizer recently I take back. It puts metal hammer to shame. I felt embarrassed reading it.

Re: Metal magazines - PLEASE ANSWER!!!!
OK, I put down Mental Hamster and Classic Rock because they were the ones I used to get. Then MH started to go downhill pretty rapidly, and seemed to start going the way of Kerrap!, only covering the scene-type bands. CR was better, but tended to shy away from the more modern bands and was far too stuck in the past. Kind of like Planet Rock, really.
It also didn't really help when I found out that since I was in contact with most of the record companies via the podcasting thing I do, I was reading the same press releases as the mag journos and even interviewing some of the same bands.
So I stopped buying the magazines about a year ago, and to be honest, I haven't really missed them.

Occasionally buy Terrorizer.
Re: Metal magazines - PLEASE ANSWER!!!!
Occasionally buy Metal Hamster if there's a band/article that will interest me. Sometimes buy Terrorizer, but it's getting a bit commercial-looking and kind of losing that intimate feeling of a small-time magazine. Bought Zero Tollerance once because I was fortunate to actually come across an issue. But you cannae get it anywhere, it's that Kvlt! Plus I wasn't too happy about the layout. The text's so small it gives you a migrane if you read it for longer than a recommended shit-stop! I buy Classic Rock if they're doing a piece of Maiden.
I suppose they all have their place, and they're all good here, and bad there. And suchlike.

Flipped through Kerrang the other day. If anything, it's got worse.

I sometimes buy Terrorizer, although it often annoys me with its elitist attitude
