I'm sure they had an album before that too.

Don't pretend you never liked that album Joe, we all did.
I didn't.
Nope, me neither. I've never even heard it in full.

Yeah, it was pretty different to what they became, also Corey wasn't the vocalist.

My housemate's northern friend is living with us for a bit. Normally I understand him fine and it's reet, but he's on the phone to someone now and I can't understand a damn word of it.

You say that, but it probably sold a lot more than most debut metal albums in the last 25 years, and if they gave it to a lesser known band, nobody would buy the magazine. Slipknot are also quite synonymous with the time-period they occupied, nobody will ever forget nu-metal regardless of what they think about it.
As well as this, the cut off is laaaate 1986, so a lot of decent bands are counted out anyways.

Re: What made you Lol Today?
As far as mainstream metal goes, that list is actually not bad.
Slipknot as #1? It's alright, it was very different to anything at the time, but I wouldn't say it should be on top. Metallica's Black album isn't even on the list and it was a massive international success at it's time!
EDIT: I just read the 'debut' word, disregard the Metallica bit

BMFV above RATM. Makes perfect sense. X.X
Re: What made you Lol Today?
one of the bands i follow on facebook started the discussing on illegal downloading and some kid actually said, his excuse for never buying CD's and only illegally donwloading music is because 'the kids are poor' and cant afford CD's, but if they like the album they can buy other merch instead.
hmmm, spend £10 on an album or £25 on a hoodie/t-shirt, makes perfect sense to go the more expensive option.
